Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Granada/CBUAIn this paper, we construct a novel normalized B-spline-like representation for C2-continuous cubic spline space defined on an initial partition refined by inserting two new points inside each sub-interval. The basis functions are compactly supported non-negative functions that are geometrically constructed and form a convex partition of unity. With the help of the control polynomial theory introduced herein, a Marsden identity is derived, from which several families of super-convergent quasi-interpolation operators are defined.Junta de AndaluciaUniversity of Granada, SpainUniversidad de Granada/CBU

Background. The aim of this report was to evaluate the clinical profile and previous management of patients with uncontrolled neuropathic pain who were referred to pain clinics. Methods. We included adult patients with uncontrolled pain who had a score of ≥4 in the DN4 questionnaire. In addition to sociodemographic and clinical data, we evaluated pain levels using a visual analog scale as well as anxiety, depression, sleep, disability, and treatment satisfaction employing validated tools. Results. A total of 755 patients were included in the study. The patients were predominantly referred to pain clinics by traumatologists (34.3%) and primary care physicians (16.7%). The most common diagnoses were radiculopathy (43%) and pain of oncological origin (14.3%). The major cause for uncontrolled pain was suboptimal treatment (88%). Fifty-three percent of the patients were depressed, 43% had clinical anxiety, 50% rated their overall health as bad or very bad, and 45% noted that their disease was severely or extremely interfering with their daily activities. Conclusions. Our results showed that uncontrolled neuropathic pain is a common phenomenon among the specialties that address these clinical entities and, regardless of its etiology, uncontrolled pain is associated with a dramatic impact on patient well-being

    Quasi-Interpolation in a Space of C 2 Sextic Splines over Powell–Sabin Triangulations

    Get PDF
In this work, we study quasi-interpolation in a space of sextic splines defined over Powell– Sabin triangulations. These spline functions are of class C 2 on the whole domain but fourth-order regularity is required at vertices and C 3 regularity is imposed across the edges of the refined triangulation and also at the interior point chosen to define the refinement. An algorithm is proposed to define the Powell–Sabin triangles with a small area and diameter needed to construct a normalized basis. Quasi-interpolation operators which reproduce sextic polynomials are constructed after deriving Marsden’s identity from a more explicit version of the control polynomials introduced some years ago in the literature. Finally, some tests show the good performance of these operators.Erasmus+ International Dimension programme, European CommissionPAIDI programme, Junta de Andalucía, Spai

Horizontal accuracy assessment of a novel algorithm for approximate a surface to a DEM

    Get PDF
This study evaluates the horizontal positional accuracy of a new algorithm that defines a surface that approximates DEM data by means of a spline function. This algorithm allows evaluating the surface at any point in its definition domain and allows analytically estimating other parameters of interest, such as slopes, orientations, etc. To evaluate the accuracy achieved with the algorithm, we use a reference DEM 2 m × 2 m (DEMref) from which the derived DEMs are obtained at 4 m × 4 m, 8 m × 8 m and 16 m × 16 m (DEMder). For each DEMder its spline approximant is calculated, which is evaluated at the same points occupied by the DEMref cells, getting a resampled DEM 2x2m (DEMrem). The horizontal accuracy is obtained by computing the area amongs the homologous contour lines derived from DEMref and DEMrem, respectively. It has been observed that the planimetric errors of the proposed algorithm are very small, even in flat areas, where you could expect major differences. Therefore, this algorithm could be used when an evaluation of the horizontal positional accuracy of a DEM product at lower resolution (DEMpro) and a different producing source than the higher resolution DEMref is wanted

A Genome-Wide Association Study Identifies New Loci Involved in Wound-Induced Lateral Root Formation in Arabidopsis thaliana

Root systems can display variable architectures that contribute to nutrient foraging or to increase the tolerance of abiotic stress conditions. Root tip excision promotes the developmental progression of previously specified lateral root (LR) founder cells, which allows to easily measuring the branching capacity of a given root as regards its genotype and/or growth conditions. Here, we describe the natural variation among 120 Arabidopsis thaliana accessions in root system architecture (RSA) after root tip excision. Wound-induced changes in RSA were associated with 19 genomic loci using genome-wide association mapping. Three candidate loci associated with wound-induced LR formation were investigated. Sequence variation in the hypothetical protein encoded by the At4g01090 gene affected wound-induced LR development and its loss-of-function mutants displayed a reduced number of LRs after root tip excision. Changes in a histidine phosphotransfer protein putatively involved in cytokinin signaling were significantly associated with LR number variation after root tip excision. Our results provide a better understanding of some of the genetic components involved in LR capacity variation among accessions

Non-Uniform Spline Quasi-Interpolation to Extract the Series Resistance in Resistive Switching Memristors for Compact Modeling Purposes

This research was funded by the Consejeria de Conocimiento, Investigacion y Universidad, Junta de Andalucia (Spain) and the FEDER programme under projects A.TIC.117.UGR18 and IE2017-5414.An advanced new methodology is presented to improve parameter extraction in resistive memories. The series resistance and some other parameters in resistive memories are obtained, making use of a two-stage algorithm, where the second one is based on quasi-interpolation on nonuniform partitions. The use of this latter advanced mathematical technique provides a numerically robust procedure, and in this manuscript, we focus on it. The series resistance, an essential parameter to characterize the circuit operation of resistive memories, is extracted from experimental curves measured in devices based on hafnium oxide as their dielectric layer. The experimental curves are highly non-linear, due to the underlying physics controlling the device operation, so that a stable numerical procedure is needed. The results also allow promising expectations in the massive extraction of new parameters that can help in the characterization of the electrical device behavior.

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
An ultra-low cost and high performance RF and microwave power sensor based on a “zero-bias” low-cost plastic package Schottky diode for research and educational purposes have been developed. A high impedance video output has been added to the detector circuitry in order to make compatible this device with the rest of the circuitry available in a basic RF laboratory. The able to detect RF power in a wide frequency range (0.5-3 GHz) coupled with the ultra-low cost makes this power detector interesting tool to use by users at any level
